Uncrashing Classic Mac OS

When Classic Mac OS crashes, you can uncrash it with the debugger. After you do this, you should consider immediately restarting the computer in case the crashing application decided to trash the contents of memory.

When the machine locks up or has a bomb error:

  1. Press the Programmer's Key.
  2. Enter ES.
  3. If the system is responsive, stop.
  4. Enter G JDSKFJLDKSJFLKDS (or your favorite keyboard smashing). Whatever you do, it should be an invalid memory address.
  5. Click through the prompt that says the application "unknown" has exited.
  6. If the system is still not responsive, consider just hitting the Reset button.

This should work with both MacsBug and MicroBug.
