Removing a stuck disc from a slot-loading optical drive

After Step 7

Due to the risk of damaging the disc and/or the optical drive, only use this for an easily-replaceable disc and an already-malfunctioning drive -- or as a last resort for a good drive.

  1. Wedge plastic card #1 below the disc
  2. Pop the disc off the spindle
  3. Bend plastic card #1 as far down as possible
  4. Move plastic card #1 as far to the side as possible
  5. Wedge plastic card #2 above the disc on the other side
  6. Move both cards toward the center of the disc, applying somewhat significant force
  7. Squeeze the cards together and pull them out, applying somewhat significant force
  8. Remove the cards and disc
