This page describes oddities with print screen in Windows 3.1 (and related systems).

Capturing the whole desktop

Don't just naïvely do the Print Screen -> Paintbrush -> Paste -> Save combination; Paintbrush will only paste into the currently viewed bounds of the image. Instead, do this:

  • Press Print Screen
  • Open Paintbrush
  • Select Options -> Image Attributes...
  • Set Units to pels
  • Set Width and Height to your screen resolution
  • Press OK
  • Select View -> Zoom Out
  • Paste

Now verify that you have the whole desktop in your image.
