The Acer Nitro 5 AN515 is not an old computer. Instead, it is my current machine. It is allegedly a laptop but has become a desktop.

Specs

CPU
Intel Core i5-8300H
RAM
16 GiB DDR4
SATA
2 TB SSD
NVMe
512 GB SSD
Wi-Fi
Wireless-AC
Display
1920x1080 @ 60 Hz

Quirks

  • Ever since the NVMe SSD was installed, the computer might hang when restarting. This is a firmware issue since the keyboard light doesn't automatically turn off when this happens. So, instead, shutdown the computer and then start it.
  • Several keys on the internal keyboard are unresponsive, such as Left Ctrl, S.

History

  • The computer is transported to my parents' place from Best Buy.
  • ⚠️ The keyboard starts having intermittent issues with the affected keys.
  • The computer is transported to my dorm room.
  • The keyboard cable is reseated, fixing the problem for a short time.
  • ⚠️ My dorm roommate rearranges my desk while I am gone one day, putting a coaster under the still-plugged-in plugs on the right side of the laptop, which results in the ports becoming slightly wobbly.
  • The 1 TB 7200 RPM hard disk is replaced with a 1 TB SSD.
  • 2020-03-??: The computer is transported to my parents' place.
  • An 8 GiB RAM stick is installed (8 -> 16).
  • A 512 GB NVMe SSD is installed.
  • 2020-08-??: The computer is transported to my apartment.
  • 2021-10-06: The 1 TB SATA SSD is replaced with a 2 TB SATA SSD.
