The 500 MHz 12 inch Dual USB iBook G3, like its clamshell equivalent, has some issues but is usually usable.

Quirks

  • The display has a noticeable scratch.
  • The trackpad will sometimes either not work or jump all over the place when touched. It is recommended to use an external mouse.

History

  • 2020-03-19: The machine arrives at my parents' place from an eBay seller. One key on the keyboard is dislodged, and an 802.11b AirPort card is already present.
  • 2020-03-19: The incorrect materials that were shipped with the clamshell iBook G3 are identified as matching this model.
  • 2020-03-21: 📈 A 512 MiB RAM stick is installed (128 -> 640).
  • 2020-04-06: The dislodged key is removed and reinserted into the keyboard. No further issues occur.
  • 2020-08-??: The computer is transported to my apartment.
  • 2023-07-20: The computer is temporarily transported back to my parents' place.
  • 2023-09-18: The computer is transported to the new home.
