Quirks

  • ECC and non-ECC RAM can't be mixed, or else the computer will not boot.
  • Unfortunately, the computer can't physically be at my apartment due to NAT at my current residence.

History

  • 2013-??-??: The data science team at my workplace acquires the computer.
  • 2020-02-12: I acquire the now-decommissioned computer from my workplace. The RAM has been removed, but everything else is there. There are two 250 GB SSDs and four 1 TB SSDs.
  • 2020-02-12: 📉 One 250 GB SSD is removed, and all 1 TB SSDs are removed. The 250 GB SSD goes to my sibling's computer, one 1 TB SSD goes to kobold, and the other 1 TB SSDs go to my coworker.
  • 2020-02-12: The computer is transported to my dorm room.
  • 2020-02-21: The computer is transported to my parents' place.
  • 2020-02-21: 📉 The NVIDIA Quadro 4000 is replaced with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 630. I needed a video card for installation, but I didn't want the Quadro sucking power if I wasn't going to be using it.
  • 2020-02-21: 📈 Four 4 GiB DDR3-1333 ECC RAM sticks are installed.
  • 2020-02-21: Debian 10 is installed, beginning the computer's new life as my server.
  • 2020-02-22: 📈 Four 1 TB 7200 RPM hard disks are installed.
  • 2020-02-22: The four 1 TB hard disks are assembled into a software RAID 5 array using mdadm.
  • 2020-09-23: One of the hard disks in the RAID 5 array drops off the SATA controller. After replugging it and re-adding it to the array, everything is OK.
  • 2021-11-25: Debian 11 is upgraded in-place over Debian 10.
  • 2023-09-28: The computer is transported to the new home after dropping off the network for an unknown reason. The process of slowly migrating services to the new server starts.
